Certificates and keys to brand-new fishing boats were handed to families of Kinniya, turning months of hardship into a fresh start at sea.
In a moving ceremony at Thurayadi, Kinniya, the Foundation handed over hand-built fibreglass fishing boats to families who had lost their livelihoods at sea. For many, months of hardship and uncertainty came to an end as they received the keys and certificates to their new vessels.
Each boat was built to local specifications and granted directly to struggling fishermen identified by our volunteers as most in need. For these families, a boat is far more than equipment, it is a daily income, food on the table, and the dignity of providing for their children.
The Fishing Boat Livelihood Project is part of our Community Empowerment programme, which helps families build sustainable livelihoods through skills, tools and capital rather than temporary relief. We are grateful to every donor who made this possible, and to the community of Kinniya for welcoming the project so warmly.
